Israel says Iran unlikely to accept US terms despite Trump’s push
Israeli officials say US President Donald Trump is actively pursuing a diplomatic agreement with Iran to help bring an end to ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, though they remain doubtful that such talks will succeed.
Three senior Israeli officials, speaking anonymously, said they believe it is unlikely Tehran will accept key US conditions in any renewed negotiations. They pointed to previous talks that reportedly collapsed at the end of February, coinciding with the escalation of conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran.
According to the officials, any US proposal would likely include restrictions on Iran’s nuclear activities as well as its ballistic missile program, issues that have long been central points of contention between the two sides.
President Trump had earlier stated on social media that US and Iranian representatives had engaged in what he described as productive discussions aimed at achieving a broader resolution to regional hostilities. However, Iranian authorities have denied that any negotiations have taken place.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also commented on the situation, suggesting that Trump sees an opportunity to combine diplomatic efforts with recent military developments involving Israeli and US forces in order to reach an agreement that aligns with Israel’s strategic interests.
