Israelis protest against Netanyahu’s government


TEL AVIV: Scuffles between security officials and protesters erupted in Tel Aviv on Saturday night as crowds from two separate demonstrations joined each other, demanding the government to step down and for hostages held in Gaza to be brought back immediately.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing frequent protests calling for his resignation and criticism from the families of hostages who have blamed him for putting at risk the lives of the 130 hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza.

In a statement released by some hostages’ families on Saturday, the families said they will take their demonstrations to Jerusalem in front of the Knesset to continue their call for the release of the hostages.

Mediated truce talks between Israel and Hamas will resume on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt’s Al Qahera News TV reported on Saturday, the latest attempt to bring about a pause after nearly six months of war in the Gaza Strip.
