Italian envoy, Sindh govt reaffirm commitment to strength bilateral ties

KARACHI: Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, together with the Italian Consul in Karachi, Danilo Giurdanella, convened a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Kamran Tessori to underscore their dedication to enhancing bilateral relations.

During discussions with institutional representatives, they reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors of cooperation: economic, commercial, cultural, linguistic, inter-university, and healthcare.

Specifically mentioned were collaborations between Gaslini Hospital in Genoa and the National Institute for Child Health in Karachi for pediatric training, as well as inter-university cooperation with the Universities of Udine, Florence, La Sapienza, and LUISS.

Ambassador Armellin also met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Pakistan, Jamil Ahmed, to discuss the state of the Pakistani economy and investment opportunities for Italian entrepreneurs. Discussions on cooperation in the maritime and port sector were held with the President of the Port Authority, Syed Syedain Raza Zaidi, and the CEO, Rear Admiral Rizwan Ahmed.

The Italian envoy paid respects at the Mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, laying a wreath in his honour. She also visited heritage sites such as Flag Staff House and Mohatta Palace.

During her visit to Sindh, Ambassador Armellin explored the necropolis of Makli and Chowkandi, the archaeological site of Bhanbore, and the Shahjahan Mosque in Thatta. She also met with Sindh Minister of Education, Syed Sardar Shah, and other local officials.

Interacting with various segments of Karachi’s society, including the Italian Development Committee and representatives from business houses, she also engaged with athletes of Special Olympics and members of the Women Entrepreneur Network to explore avenues for bilateral engagement.
