Cricket fans, breathe easy – the Tigers are in!
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially confirmed that Bangladesh will directly qualify for the 2028 T20 World Cup, putting an emphatic end to weeks of speculation.
Despite missing out on the Super Eight in the last edition, Bangladesh’s strong position in the ICC T20 rankings has sealed their ticket to the 20-team global showdown. Ranked ninth in the world, the Tigers are comfortably placed, and with no international matches scheduled before the March 9 cut-off, their spot is secure.
As per tournament rules, all teams that reached the Super Eight of T20 World Cup 2026 automatically qualify. Hosts New Zealand are in, while Australia also enter as hosts despite missing the Super Eight. Eight more teams will battle it out through qualifiers, while rankings and host status determine the remaining places.
Joining Bangladesh in the confirmed list are Afghanistan (10th) and Ireland (12th), both mathematically safe ahead of the deadline. There are no international matches scheduled before March 9, which is unlikely to affect their rankings.
For Bangladesh, this isn’t just qualification, it’s a statement. The Tigers are gearing up to bring fire, fight, and flair to 2028.
