Ivana Lisette Ortiz has been formally charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire outside Rihanna’s Los Angeles home while the singer and her partner A$AP Rocky were inside the property, prosecutors said.
Authorities say the shooting took place on March 8 outside the Beverly Hills-area residence, where multiple rounds were fired toward the home in what officials described as a dangerous act that put several people at risk.
Ortiz, 35, appeared in court on March 10 and now faces a series of charges linked to the incident. In addition to attempted murder, prosecutors said she has been charged with 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle.
Investigators say the additional charges relate to the alleged targeting of Rihanna’s home, a vehicle on the property and a neighbouring residence. The assault counts also include allegations involving people who were inside or near the property at the time, including members of Rihanna’s household.
Despite the gunfire, no injuries were reported.
According to investigators, Ortiz allegedly drove to the front of the property and fired a semiautomatic rifle multiple times before leaving the area.
Police later located her white Tesla roughly eight miles away at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping centre, where officers took her into custody.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the case highlights the danger posed by gun violence in residential neighbourhoods.
“Opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous and puts lives at risk,” Hochman said in a statement. “This kind of violence will be fully prosecuted.”
Authorities said several people were inside Rihanna’s home when the shooting occurred, including members of her household.
Rihanna shares three children with A$AP Rocky, though it remains unclear whether their children were inside the residence at the time of the incident.
Ortiz is currently being held on $1.8 million bail and is expected to return to court later this month for an arraignment hearing.
Investigators are still working to determine a possible motive for the shooting and whether Ortiz knew the property belonged to the singer.
The incident has drawn widespread attention online as fans reacted to news that shots had been fired at the home of one of the world’s most recognisable pop stars.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
