BANNU: A prisoner at Bannu Central Jail has secured third position in the Arts Group in the annual matriculation exams conducted by the Bannu Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

The inmate was identified as Dil Daraz Khan, who is imprisoned in connection with a murder case under Section 302.

According to the Bannu Board’s Controller of Examinations, in the Science Group, a student of Cadet College Razmak secured the first position, followed by a student of Government Centennial Model School in second place, and a student of Government High School Lakki Marwat in third.

In the Arts Group, Aiman Hussain from Government Girls High School Sadrkhel clinched the top position with 1,046 marks, followed by Ayesha with 1,041 marks. Dil Daraz Khan secured third position with 1,005 marks out of 1,200.

Khan, 54, appeared in the exams as a private candidate. Jail authorities said he had also sat the Class IX board exams from jail.

The Bannu board lauded Khan’s academic achievement and praised the jail administration for facilitating inmates and ensuring transparent conduct of exams.

Provincial Minister Pakhtoon Yar and other guests attended the result announcement ceremony.

Earlier, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar announced the results of the 2025 annual examinations for 9th and 10th grades, with female students from private schools bagging the top positions.

Notably, public sector schools failed to make their mark in the matriculation exams held under the BISE Peshawar despite the enormous annual spending by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on education.
