Sydney Sweeney has emerged as a surprise name in the race to become the next James Bond, after a Hollywood director backed her for the iconic role.
The Euphoria star, 28, has already expressed interest in joining the franchise, but fresh comments have reignited speculation over whether she could take on 007 herself.
Director Paul Feig, who recently worked with Sweeney on The Housemaid, said he would prefer to see her step into the role of Bond rather than play a traditional “Bond girl”.
“I’d rather Sydney be the next Bond,” he told The Sun, describing her as “professional, smart and savvy” and saying she would make a strong spy.
Sweeney has previously hinted at her interest in the franchise, particularly after Amazon MGM took creative control of the series.
“I’ve always been a huge fan and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it,” she said last year.
When asked whether she would consider playing a Bond girl, she suggested she would aim higher.
“I think I’d have more fun as James Bond,” she said.
The future of the franchise remains one of Hollywood’s biggest unanswered questions following No Time To Die, which marked Daniel Craig’s final appearance as 007.
Several actors have been linked to the role, including Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Damson Idris and Callum Turner, while earlier rumours around Jessie Buckley were later dismissed as an April Fool’s joke.
The next Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with a script by Steven Knight, marking a new era for the long-running franchise.
Whether Sweeney will actually be considered remains unclear, but the suggestion alone has sparked fresh debate over what the future of James Bond could look like.
