Jamie Bell to front new ‘Peaky Blinders’ series as story shifts to 1950s

Jamie Bell

Jamie Bell is set to front a new chapter of Peaky Blinders, taking on a major role as the hit series moves into a new generation.

Bell will play Duke Shelby, the son of Tommy Shelby, as the story shifts to the 1950s following the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

New era for the Shelby family

The upcoming series will be set around a decade after the film and will explore post-war Birmingham, focusing on a Shelby family navigating a rapidly changing world.

Duke is expected to be portrayed as “older, wiser, more ambitious and more dangerous” as he steps into a central role.

Star-studded cast expands

Joining Bell in the cast are Charlie Heaton, best known for Stranger Things, along with Jessica Brown Findlay and Lashana Lynch.

Actor Lucy Karczewski will also make her television debut in the series.

Creator Steven Knight said he was “thrilled” to launch a new era of the show, adding that more casting announcements are expected.

From film to series

The project follows Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which recently premiered in Birmingham and continues the story of the Shelby family.

The new series is being produced by Banijay UK’s Kudos and Garrison Drama for the BBC and Netflix.

Filming is taking place in and around Birmingham as part of a wider investment in television production in the West Midlands.

What to expect

The new instalment will consist of two series, each featuring six hour-long episodes.

It is set to premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, and on Netflix globally.

The announcement marks a major expansion of the Peaky Blinders universe, as the story moves beyond its original timeline into a new generation of characters.
