WEB DESK: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has confirmed that the Punjab government has received approval to operate an airline under the name Air Punjab. Speaking to reporters, he described the matter of the provincial government acquiring an aircraft as “not a cause for surprise,” noting that planes are already held by several chief ministers and even the federal prime minister. “As with any success, some critics appear to be looking for flaws out of jealousy,” Asif added, referring to scrutiny over the provincial government’s aviation initiative.
Asif said Air Punjab is a registered airline with a valid licence. “If the Punjab government chooses to operate it, there is nothing wrong with that,” he added.
The minister also praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, describing her performance as “outstanding” and highlighting efforts to address public issues at the grassroots level. He emphasised that she is actively serving the people of the province and that the aircraft acquisition should not be viewed as a point of contention.
