LONDON: Jemima Goldsmith, former wife of PTI founder and ex-prime minister Imran Khan, has been fined £1,000 in the United Kingdom for a speeding violation, according to media reports.
The fine amounts to more than Rs376,000 in Pakistani currency.
Reports said that Jemima Goldsmith failed to respond to a letter issued by the Metropolitan Police and did not provide the name of the driver of the vehicle within the stipulated time.
The court also ordered her to pay an additional £530 in costs and other charges. Six penalty points have been added to her driving licence.
In her defence, Goldsmith stated that renovation work was under way at her home and that the police letter was misplaced by a builder.
She said she was unaware of the notice until October and submitted the required form as soon as she received it.
She maintained that the car was being driven by the builder at the time but she was held responsible.
According to media reports, Goldsmith accepted the mistake and acknowledged that she would pay the fine.
