WEB DESK: Jemima Khan, the former wife of incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, has alleged that social media platform X is restricting the reach of her posts highlighting her ex-husband’s detention and prison conditions.

In a post addressed directly to X owner Elon Musk, Jemima said Imran Khan, whom she described as Pakistan’s democratically elected prime minister removed from office in 2022, has been held in what she termed “brutal solitary confinement” for 22 months. She said their two sons have neither seen nor spoken to their father in months and are not permitted to send him letters, while his name is barred from Pakistani television and radio.

Jemima said X remained the only independent platform available to raise these concerns. However, citing findings by Grok, X’s artificial intelligence tool, she claimed her account had been subjected to “secret throttling”, significantly limiting the visibility of her posts.

According to figures she shared, her account, which has over 3.5 million followers, previously averaged between 400 and 900 million impressions per month in 2023 and early 2024. In contrast, she said her total impressions for the whole of 2025 stood at just 28.6 million, a drop of about 97 per cent.

She claimed the decline began in May 2025, when a post briefly reached four million impressions following the lifting of Pakistan’s ban on X, after which engagement sharply fell again.

Calling on Musk to honour his public commitments to free speech, Jemima urged X to remove the alleged restrictions on her account, saying lawful political expression should not be silenced.
