ISLAMABAD: The Jammat-e-Islami has renewed its call for a nationwide protest movement against electricity bills and inflation.

JI leader Siraj ul Haq announced the nationwide protest, stating that sit-ins will be staged outside Governor Houses to protest against perceived injustice and oppression facing the citizens.

The protest movement is scheduled to commence tomorrow in Rahim Yar Khan, followed by events in Leh on September 9 and Muzaffargarh on September 10. Subsequent sit-ins are planned for Faisalabad on September 15, Rawalpindi on September 21, and Multan on September 22.

Furthermore, the JI leader disclosed plans to challenge the costly contracts of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in the Supreme Court in the upcoming week.

A white paper on the energy sector will also be issued, according to Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haque.

Emphasizing their commitment to peaceful and lawful protest, Sirajul Haque urged the government to provide relief to the public by reducing electricity prices rather than burdening the poor.

He called for an end to the provision of free electricity and the elimination of electricity theft and line losses estimated at around 1,000 billion.

It is worth noting that the Jamaat-e-Islami had previously suspended its nationwide protests against inflated power bills after setting a deadline for the government to offer relief.
