JI’s Hafiz Naeem accuses PPP of election manipulation in Karachi LG polls

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi President Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has accused Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari of manipulating the electoral process in Karachi and creating ‘a state within a state’.

“Asif Ali Zardari said he has a deep understanding of the economy as he knows how much to gobble up and how much to extract,” he said while talking to reporters in Karachi.

Naeem, who is also the JI’s candidate for the Karachi mayor, accused Zardari of committing corruption in development projects in the megapolis city.

Naeem accused the Election Commission of Pakistan of ‘facilitating the mafia’ , saying the polls body ‘trampled the constitution and undermined democracy.’

The JI’s mayoral candidate also accused the PPP of nepotism and corruption in the mass transit project launched in Karachi. “Billions have been spent on the advertisement of the bus project by the PPP without checks and balances,” he said.

Naeem also accused PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of being aligned with the feudal class.
