JIUI-F chief, Chinese envoy urge US-Iran ceasefire to avert economic fallout

Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the party leader’s residence in Islamabad on Thursday, conveying diplomatic support for the ongoing US-Iran peace process.

According to a post on JUI-F’s X account, the meeting focused on regional tensions, peace efforts, and the urgent need to halt hostilities in the Middle East. Both leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, emphasizing that the ongoing war violates international law, undermines Iran’s sovereignty, and could have serious global economic consequences if unchecked.

Ambassador Jiang highlighted that failure to secure a ceasefire would disrupt global markets, energy supplies, and economic stability, affecting not only the Middle East but also Europe and beyond. Both leaders stressed that peaceful diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable paths to lasting resolution.

Their remarks align with broader international efforts, including a joint Pakistan-China initiative advocating for an immediate halt to hostilities and diplomatic talks. Experts note that a peace deal is critical for restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global energy shipments.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman reiterated JUI-F’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan-China relations and promoting regional peace. The meeting concluded with a shared emphasis on diplomatic solutions and the urgent need to mitigate economic and regional risks through dialogue rather than conflict.
