Teddi opened up about her cancer diagnosis and the difficult period that followed, revealing how her father stepped in and remained by her side throughout treatment.

“He stepped up, took control, fought for me,” she said, describing the role he played during her recovery.

Diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in 2022, Teddi has undergone multiple surgeries, including a major procedure after the cancer spread. She has since said the disease is no longer detectable, though she continues to be monitored.

What began as a standard awards tribute soon turned into one of the most emotional segments of the night, as Teddi reflected on how her father refused to let her face the illness alone.

She described him as both an icon and her “best friend”, highlighting a side of the singer rarely seen in public.

The moment reached its peak when Mellencamp, after accepting the honour, handed the award back to his daughter, creating a symbolic exchange that resonated with the audience.
