BRUSSELS: The former Formula One driver Jos Verstappen, father of four-time world champion Max Verstappen, escaped unhurt after a dramatic crash during the Rallye de Wallonie in Belgium on Sunday, according to event organisers.
The 54-year-old Dutchman, who won the Belgian Rally Championship last year, was forced to withdraw from the race after what organisers described as a “violent crash” that sent his Skoda car rolling.
A statement shared on social media confirmed that while both driver and co-driver were safe, the vehicle suffered heavy damage, making it impossible to continue.
Local media reported that Verstappen lost control of his car before colliding with a tree, leading to the incident.
Despite the severity of the crash, no injuries were reported, bringing relief to fans and the racing community.
Meanwhile, Adrian Fernemont went on to secure victory in the event, marking his third win at the Rallye de Wallonie.
