JUI-F leader asks govt to postpone voting on constitutional amendment bill

constitutional amendment bill

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari has urged the government to postpone voting on the proposed constitutional amendment bill, as they have not yet received the draft of the bill.

Talking to the media in Islamabad, Haidari stated that government officials approached them, but they have yet to receive the draft of the amendment bill. “We told them, you’re rushing this, but without seeing or reading the bill, how can we vote?” he said.

He emphasized the importance of reviewing the draft before making any decision, stating that delaying the bill would give the JUI-F and other opposition parties time to carefully read and understand the contents of the proposed bill.

Haidari also mentioned that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf members echoed similar concerns, and asked the government to allow them time to read and consider the bill before reaching a decision.

He said that as the parliament session has been summoned, they would participate and clearly present their stance. He questioned the government’s urgency, saying, “What’s the need for such haste?”

He said that if the government insists on rushing the bill though bouth house of the parliament, JUI-F might not be able to support it at this juncture.
