ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam, denounced US‑Israeli attacks and offered condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
During the visit, he expressed deep grief and recorded his sympathies in the embassy’s condolence book, emphasising solidarity with the Iranian people.
Maulana strongly condemned what he described as aggression by the US and Israel against Iran. Speaking on the regional situation, he said that Zionism, in alliance with Europe, had previously occupied Palestine and warned that the region still faces intense tension and ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Iran has dismissed claims by the US about negotiations as tensions in the region remained high following a series of attacks and countermeasures.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson called reports about talks “completely false,” saying that a supposed US offer in the final stage was rejected by Tehran.
“Everything being said about negotiations is lies,” the spokesperson said. He also questioned claims by US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, that Israel had intervened or that Iran posed an immediate threat.
President Donald Trump had described Iran as an “immediate danger” before the weekend’s attacks, but the Iranian Foreign Ministry pointed to Pentagon reports stating that Iran posed no direct threat to the United States.
“Did Iran send forces to US shores? Did we fire missiles at the White House? No,” the spokesperson said, highlighting that Tehran is surrounded by hundreds of American bases across the region.
Iranian officials emphasised that while the situation is “unusual,” the country is not paralysed.
President Masoud Pezeshkian said that normal activities continue nationwide, and all governors remain in contact with central leadership. Pezeshkian described national unity as the country’s “greatest asset.”
