Karachi received heavy rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds in several parts of the city on Saturday morning, raising the likelihood of a wet Eid for residents preparing for the holidays.
The downpour was reported in a wide stretch of Karachi, including Saddar, II Chundrigar Road and adjoining areas, as well as Clifton, Sea View, Scheme 33, Safora Chowrangi, Safora Goth, FB Area, Malir, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar and SITE Area. The sudden spell of stormy weather brought relief from the heat, but also stirred concerns over traffic congestion, waterlogging and disruptions to last-minute Eid shopping and travel.
For Karachi, rain around Eid often creates a mixed picture. While cooler weather can bring some comfort during the festive period, heavy showers also tend to complicate movement across the city, particularly for families heading out for shopping, gatherings or Eid prayers. With rain falling across both commercial centres and residential neighbourhoods, many residents are now preparing for the possibility of a rainy Eid.
The weather system was not confined to Karachi alone. Quetta and its surrounding areas also saw heavy rain with thunder and lightning, while light rain was reported in different parts of Hyderabad. Chaman and nearby areas also received rainfall.
As Eid approaches, the rain has added an unusual but familiar layer to Karachi’s celebrations — one that brings both relief and inconvenience in equal measure.
