KARACHI: In a significant development, the People’s Bus Service in Karachi is set to expand its fleet by 30 buses, bringing relief to the city’s commuters.

The move comes after the Caretaker Chief Minister, Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir, intervened to secure the release of funds by the Accountant General, Sindh for the new buses.

Upon the release of funds, the transport department is now tasked with settling the customs duties, as emphasised by the Sindh Chief Minister. In a directive, the CM instructed the transport department to ensure all payments are made promptly, facilitating the timely release of the buses from the port within a week.

Electricity tariffs set to surge by Rs4.66 per unit

Highlighting the urgency of the matter, CM Baqir emphasised the swift deployment of the newly ordered buses from China onto Karachi’s roads. He said, “The buses ordered from China should be brought on the roads as soon as possible.”

Justice (R) Baqir also revealed plans to engage with the federal government to obtain approval for the BRT Red Line Corridor by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The addition of these buses signifies a positive stride towards improving public transit in Karachi.
