Karachi man killed after police opened fire on his car for not sopping at checkpost

KARACHI: A man was killed on Saturday in Karachi’s Orangi Town after police opened fire on his car for not stopping at a checkpoint

Police said that officers at a checkpoint signalled the car to stop, and when it did not, they opened fire. The driver of the car was injured and died en route to the hospital.

According to police, a man on a motorcycle was with the car and fled the scene after firing at police.

The victim has been identified as Ajmal.

The victim’s cousin, Muzamil, said that the young man was driving a car carrying “chalia” from Hub Chowki to Karachi. He said that police should not have opened fire directly and that they could have stopped and arrested the man instead.

The crime scene unit arrived at the scene and collected evidence. The incident is under investigation.
