Karachi manhole incident inquiry: Committee formed under Karachi police chief

ISLAMABAD: A four-member committee has been formed under the leadership of the Karachi police chief to investigate the death of the child who fell into a manhole on Wednesday night.

According to sources, the main hole incident inquiry committee includes Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation Central.

The four members of the investigative committee visited the bereaved family of the deceased child and met with the relatives.

The police officials discussed the possibility of registering a case with the family.

However, the family has not yet expressed their intention to file a formal complaint. The police are continuing their investigation and have assured that legal action will be taken against those responsible.

Earlier in the evening, a toddler fell into a manhole in Karachi, just days after members of the Sindh Provincial Assembly raised concerns over a similar incident earlier this week, in which a child lost their life.

The recurring manhole maintenance issue in the city has sparked widespread public outrage, with many criticizing authorities for failing to address the problem effectively.
