Several schools located along Malir Cantt Road have dismissed students early as worsening road conditions make commuting unsafe due to rain in Karachi.
School administrations confirmed that the decision to send children home was taken to ensure their safety amid the deteriorating traffic and infrastructure situation in the area.
Streets flooded as heavy rain disrupts commuting
Karachi faced severe disruption as heavy rain and thunderstorms flooded University Road, submerging several areas and making commuting extremely difficult. Poor drainage and deteriorating road conditions worsened the situation, leaving vehicles and pedestrians struggling to navigate waterlogged streets. Residents reported delays and frustration as travel across the city became challenging, highlighting ongoing infrastructure issues.
In response, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon said the government had taken precautionary measures ahead of the rains, including cancelling leaves of essential staff and deploying additional dewatering pumps in low-lying areas. Municipal officers have been placed on high alert to monitor conditions and respond quickly.
Minister Memon emphasised that citizen safety remains a top priority and urged residents to follow precautions during heavy rainfall. He also advised people to contact relevant authorities immediately in case of emergencies to ensure timely assistance.
