Karachi school bus driver hits motorcyclist, flees while driving children to picnic

KARACHI: A minor accident near Defence Kala Pul on Tuesday caused panic among schoolchildren traveling on a picnic bus, though no injuries were reported, according to the Traffic Police.

Officials said the incident occurred when a private school bus, carrying more than 40 boys, girls, teachers, and the school principal, was on its way to the Karachi Zoological Garden. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver’s speed and negligence led to the accident.

The bus allegedly hit a motorcyclist near the Kala Pul signal, after which the driver attempted to flee the scene. In the process, the bus crashed into the bridge’s guardrail, causing damage to the vehicle but fortunately sparing the passengers.

“The children are safe, and there were no casualties,” the Traffic Police confirmed, adding that swift action by nearby motorists and law enforcement ensured the situation remained under control.

Following the crash, the driver abandoned the bus and escaped. Police have seized the vehicle and launched a search to locate the driver. An investigation has been initiated to determine the full circumstances of the accident and to ensure accountability.

Parents were informed soon after the incident, while police said that despite the scare, all children and staff onboard remained unharmed.
