KARACHI: Another toddler fell into a manhole in Karachi today, just days after members of the Sindh Provincial Assembly raised concerns over a similar incident earlier this week, in which a child lost their life.
The recurring manhole maintenance issue in the city has sparked widespread public outrage, with many criticizing authorities for failing to address the problem effectively.
Earlier this week, a child named Ibrahim went missing on Sunday night after falling into an uncovered manhole near Nipa Chowrangi in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. The tragedy drew sharp criticism from opposition lawmakers, who condemned the government and Karachi’s mayor for poor manhole maintenance that contributed to Ibrahim’s death.
During his address in the Assembly, Jamat-e-Islami MPA Muhammad Farooq said the grief of the child’s mother was “unimaginable” and added, “This is the third incident near the BRT Red Line.”
