Karachi: woman found dead in Surjani Town, family alleges domestic violence

KARACHI: A young woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Surjani Town’s Saif Al-Mari Goth area on Tuesday, police and family members said.

Police said that the 18-year-old’s body was shifted to hospital for legal formalities, while an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death.

According to the Surjani Town police, the woman’s body bore visible marks of injuries, and officials said the exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem examination report. Police said they are examining all possible angles, including allegations of domestic violence raised by the family.

Family members alleged that the woman had been subjected to violence by her husband stating that she had come to her parents’ home two days earlier following the alleged abuse.

Police confirmed that initial findings suggest the presence of physical injuries on the body, but did not immediately confirm the circumstances leading to her death.

“The body has been moved for medico-legal procedures,” a police official said, adding that further clarity would emerge after the post-mortem report. Authorities are recording statements from family members and other relevant individuals as part of the investigation, and no arrests have been announced so far.
