Karachi’s new traffic rule: heavy fine on repeat offence

KARACHI: The Additional Inspector General has announced a new traffic system where first-time violations will be waived. However, motorists who commit the offence again will have to pay both the new fine and the previously waived one.

According to the AIG, citizens who clear their challan within 14 days will receive a 50% discount. He noted that fines in Lahore are significantly higher compared to Karachi, making the new mechanism more convenient for Karachi residents.

He added that the updated fine schedule will be implemented once approved by the Punjab cabinet. The new system is expected to improve traffic discipline and overall road management, while fine rates in Punjab are likely to increase in the coming months.

Authorities have advised citizens to pay their challans on time to avoid additional penalties.

The revised law aims to enhance traffic order and provide convenience to the public, offering relief on the first mistake and incentives for timely payment.
