Karachi’s Zamzama fire: all occupants rescued safely

Zamzama fire

A fire broke out at a departmental store in Karachi, prompting a swift emergency response as authorities worked to bring the blaze under control.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab said firefighting efforts were underway, though thick smoke was hampering rescue operations. Despite the challenging conditions, emergency teams managed to evacuate everyone inside the building without any casualties.

According to the mayor, around 24 to 25 individuals were present in the building at the time of the incident. All occupants were safely escorted out, and officials later confirmed that no one remained trapped inside.

Rescue teams are continuing efforts to fully contain the fire and complete clearance operations at the site. Authorities have said the cause of the fire will be investigated once the situation is under control.

Wahab added that city officials remain in close coordination with the relevant administration to manage the emergency and ensure public safety.

Gul Plaza fire

About a week ago, fire broke out again at Gul Plaza in Karachi, nearly two months after a devastating blaze at the same site killed over 70 people. Authorities said the latest fire started in the basement and was largely brought under control, with around 70 per cent of the flames extinguished.

Emergency response teams, including multiple fire tenders, were deployed to contain the blaze, while rescue officials worked to determine its cause. Acting Deputy Commissioner South Amir Fazal Owaisi said the fire was likely sparked by drug-addicted individuals who had entered the building to steal materials such as wiring.

Officials confirmed that several such individuals were found at the site, and police arrested three suspects. Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause.
