NEW JERSEY: An iconic overcoat worn by Kate Winslet in the movie “Titanic” is currently up for online auction by New Jersey-based collectibles auctioneer Goldin until September 13.
The founder and CEO of the auction house, Ken Goldin, stated that the overcoat is likely to fetch a six-figure sum up to $100,000.
Several bids have already been placed, with the highest bid at $34,000 as of Friday night.
The floor-length coat was worn by Kate Winslet’s character, Rose, during the sinking scenes of the 1997 blockbuster, particularly when she rescues Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jack.
The coat still retains water stains from its use during filming.

Designed by Deborah Lynn Scott, the coat is made of pink wool with black embroidery. Scott won an Oscar for Best Costume Design for her work on “Titanic.”
The coat was initially sold along with other props from the movie by 20th Century Fox in 1998. It was made by the J. Peterman Company based on Scott’s design and comes with a letter of authenticity from the clothier from 20th Century Fox.
After changing hands over the years, the current owner hired Resolution Photomatching to verify its authenticity by matching it with images from the film.
The overcoat is part of the elite Goldin 100 auction, featuring collectibles valued at $100,000 and above.
According to the New York Post, Goldin believes the potential buyer could be a movie memorabilia collector, a pop culture enthusiast, or even someone wanting to gift it as a unique item, saying, “Possibly somebody may want it to give it to their wife to show off and wear and say, ‘This is the coat that Kate Winslet wore.'”
The auction provides an opportunity for fans and collectors to acquire a piece of cinematic history from one of the most iconic movies of all time.
