Keanu Reeves to star in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”

WEB DESK: Hollywood star Keanu Reeves is set to lend his voice to the iconic character Shadow in the upcoming “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” movie.

Reeves participation in the project was confirmed on Monday, leading to huge fanfare from fans of the actor and the video game franchise alike.

Known mostly for his action movies, fans of the video game IP are excited to see him voice the dark and edgy counterpart to the protagonist Sonic. The antagonist Shadow is famous within the fandom for his jet-propelled footwear and fondness for firearms. The character made his first appearance in the “Sonic Adventure 2” video game back in 2001.

The character’s cinematic debut was hinted at the end of the previous Sonic movie by showing him cryogenically frozen at a mysterious location. Paramount’s unveiled the Shadow at the recent “CinemaCon” presentation, along with the return of Dr Robotnik, Sonic’s main archnemesis.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will continue Sonic’s adventures with his friends. The movie’s voice-cast includes James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, and Jim Carrey, along with Keanu Reeves.
The third iteration of the movie franchise reportedly drew inspiration from Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog.
Filming began in July 2023 and wrapped up by March 2024, with plans for a theatrical release in the United States on December 20, 2024, courtesy of Paramount Pictures.

The Sonic movie franchise kicked off with the first installment “Sonic the Hedgehog” in 2020 followed by a successful sequel in 2022.

Meanwhile, Keanu has been enjoying a slew of blockbusters recently. His recent blockbuster streak includes his return as the protagonist in “The Matrix: Resurrections” and the fourth installment of action movie franchise John Wick.

He also has future projects lined up, including a John Wick spinoff dubbed “Ballerina”.
