WEB DESK: In a major tactical breakthrough for regional stability, a group of militants and criminals led by Mirak Khan Chakrani surrendered on Friday in Sui, laying down arms in a development facilitated by security forces and brother of the Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, Mir Aftab Bugti, .
Chakrani and his 25 associates, previously implicated in organized crime, robberies, and extortion, handed over a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, publicly renounced violence, and announced their decision to join the “Chakrani Peace Force,” a local initiative aimed at assisting the state in neutralizing extremist elements.
The surrender is being described as a milestone of Operation Radd-ul-Fitna, which targets the convergence of insurgency and organised crime through a hybrid strategy combining kinetic action, intelligence-based operations, and reconciliation. By dismantling extortion and kidnapping networks, applying sustained pressure on sleeper cells, and offering a dignified path back into the national mainstream through local mediation, the operation has significantly weakened militant influence in the area.
Officials say the Chakrani surrender sends a strong signal to other active factions that reconciliation remains viable, helps restore state authority in energy-sensitive regions such as Sui, and is expected to generate further defections in the coming weeks.
