QUETTA: A local court in Quetta on Thursday granted post-arrest bail to renowned fashion designer and social media activist Khadija Shah, who was accused of involvement in the May 9 riots in the city.
Shah was produced before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) judge in Quetta. She was arrested by Quetta police two weeks back on charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with the violent protests that erupted on May 9.
According to Quetta police, Shah was among the instigators of the mob that attacked the Lahore corps commander’s house, Askari Tower and torched police vehicles in the cantonment area.
Shah’s counsel Syed Iqbal Shah argued that his client was innocent and had no role in the riots. He said that Shah was a victim of a political vendetta and that the cases against her were fabricated. He challenged her arrest and requested the court to grant her bail.
The court, after hearing the arguments of both sides, approved Shah’s bail application and ordered her release.
The court also directed Shah to cooperate with the police in the investigation and appear before the court whenever summoned.
