Khawaja Asif alleges Imran Khan receiving special privileges in jail

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is receiving special treatment during his incarceration.

Speaking to the media, Khawaja Asif claimed that Khan enjoys comforts far beyond those afforded to ordinary prisoners. According to the minister, Khan receives food from outside the jail, while other inmates rely solely on meals provided by prison authorities. He reportedly has access to meals comparable to those served in five-star hotels.

Khan is also said to have a television in his cell, allowing him to watch channels of his choice, as well as a double bed with comfortable bedding and two blankets. This, Khawaja Asif noted, contrasts sharply with other prisoners, who sleep on cold floors. He further alleged that in January, when inmates reportedly had no hot water due to a geyser being removed, Khan still had access to warmth and comfort.

The minister emphasised the stark disparity between Khan’s living conditions and those of ordinary inmates, calling it unfair and indicative of preferential treatment. His remarks come amid heightened political tensions, as the treatment of political figures in custody continues to fuel public debate.

Concerns over the former prime minister’s well-being have surged across Pakistan in recent days, with Khan’s sisters demanding to meet him amid rumors that he may have died in jail. The controversy intensified after reports emerged of a violent police confrontation involving his sisters outside the jail gates, alongside persistent uncertainty over Khan’s condition.

The alarm was first raised when Taliban-linked and Afghan media outlets published unverified reports suggesting that Imran Khan had been “mysteriously killed” inside Adiala Jail.
