WEB DESK: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday told the National Assembly that Pakistan was passing through “historic moments”, crediting what he described as restraint, wisdom and coordinated efforts by the country’s political and military leadership for ensuring a successful peace process.

He said the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal had worked “day and night” to achieve progress, adding that closer institutional coordination between Rawalpindi and Islamabad had helped bring a difficult phase to completion.

The Defence Minister said, “Pakistan has achieved success in what I term the ‘Ma’raka-e-Haq’. I express gratitude to Almighty Allah for what I believe is a significant enhancement in the country’s honour and prestige after decades.”

Khawaja Asif further said the recent developments reflected a “diplomatic war for peace” in which Pakistan had emerged successful.

He also said the country was simultaneously engaged in an economic struggle, expressing confidence that it would also succeed in that domain. Stressing national unity, he called for collective resolve in the fight against terrorism, describing it as a “war of the entire nation”.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq hails leadership efforts and regional diplomacy

Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq congratulated members of the House, saying he was grateful to Allah for what he described as Pakistan’s role in helping avert a wider global conflict.

He said the development was a matter of “pride and honour” and credited the Prime Minister’s efforts alongside Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for their contribution to the diplomatic process.

The Speaker also praised Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and National Security Adviser Asim Malik, saying their efforts had been instrumental in achieving the outcome.

Ayaz Sadiq added that Pakistan’s leadership “deserved the Nobel Prize” for its role in advancing peace efforts and stabilising the regional situation.
