Four police personnel were injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on a police checkpost in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday, according to police.

Police said the attackers targeted the Shadi Pur checkpost and fled after officers returned fire. The four injured personnel were shifted to a hospital for medical treatment, while police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the assailants.

Four customs officials killed in Dera Ismail Khan attack

The incident comes amid a recent rise in attacks on security and law-enforcement personnel across KP. On Tuesday, four Customs officials were killed in an attack in Dera Ismail Khan. The incident took place near Qureshi Mor and Abhaiya Bridge within the jurisdiction of Gomal University Police Station.

In a separate attack in Dera Ismail Khan, a traffic police mobile unit was targeted near Mufti Mahmood Chowk in the jurisdiction of Dera Town Police Station. Constable and driver Muhammad Habib was killed, while Head Constable Subhan Khan was seriously injured.

The attack was reportedly the second assault on a traffic police mobile unit in KP within 10 days. On September 28, three traffic police personnel were killed and two passersby injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on a traffic police vehicle in Wazirabad, Tank district. Police said the attackers, who were riding a motorcycle, also took the weapons of the slain officers before fleeing the scene.

The recent violence follows several other deadly incidents in the province. On September 27, three people were killed and three others injured in an attack in Lakki Marwat. On September 26, a suspected suicide attack and subsequent firing at a checkpost in Dera Ismail Khan left 12 people dead and 35 injured. Earlier, on September 18, an attack during Friday prayers at the Old Police Lines in Kohat killed 21 people and injured more than 100 others.
