Kohli climbs to No. 2 after 55th ODI century in latest ICC rankings

Indian batter Virat Kohli has climbed to second place in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings after scoring his 55th ODI century against the West Indies.

Kohli’s unbeaten 139 lifted his rating to 796 points, moving him one place above New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell. India teammate Shubman Gill remains at the top with 816 points, while Mitchell is third with 794 points.

Rohit Sharma retained fourth place with 719 points, giving India three batters in the top four of the latest rankings.

Among Pakistani batters, Babar Azam is the highest-ranked player at sixth, followed by Salman Ali Agha at 14th. Mohammad Rizwan is ranked 31st, Fakhar Zaman 39th and Saim Ayub 43rd.

The latest update followed a prolific week in ODI cricket, with eight centuries scored, including a record six on September 27, according to the ICC.

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis was among the biggest movers, climbing three places to a career-best seventh with 674 points after scoring 121 in Leeds.

England’s Harry Brook moved one place to 11th with 650 points after his half-century at The Oval, leaving him three points behind Ireland’s Harry Tector.

South Africa’s Temba Bavuma jumped 10 places to 32nd with 556 points after scoring a century against Australia, while teammate Matthew Breetzke rose 19 places to 21st with 607 points. David Miller also returned to the rankings at 41st after his 142 off 93 balls in the second ODI against Australia.

On the bowling side, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj climbed three places to third with 667 points after taking four wickets for 20 runs and two for 54 in the first two ODIs against Australia.

Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed is second with 675 points, while India’s Kuldeep Yadav moved four places to fifth with 623 points after taking four wickets against the West Indies.

Australia’s Josh Hazlewood also entered the top 10, rising five places to 10th with 591 points after taking four wickets in the two ODIs against South Africa.

The rankings update comes as teams step up preparations for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
