‘Koyal’ emerges victorious in Karachi donkey cart race

WEB DESK: ‘Koyal’ emerged victorious among more than 50 contestants in the “Commissioner Karachi Donkey Cart Race”, held to mark the 79th Independence Day.

Donkey cart race enthusiasts began the race from Aga Khan Tower, passed through Native Jetty Bridge, MT Khan Road and Club Road, and culminated at the Commissioner Karachi Office.

Prizes were distributed among the first, second and third-position holders.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said he had witnessed the donkey cart race for the first time.

He said, “We worked on the race routes throughout the night to make the event successful. Such events attract people and we have to protect our culture.”

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi said the Karachi administration had made all efforts to make the event successful. He said the event could not have succeeded without the cooperation of the police.

Karachi Police Additional Inspector-General Azad Khan stressed the need to take steps to promote donkey cart racing.

Khan said he had been a keen spectator of the donkey cart race, which, he said, had been on the decline in recent years.
