PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved amendments to the Public Service Commission Ordinance 2018, reducing the governor’s role in the appointment and administrative matters of the commission.

The PSC Amendment Act 2026 was approved after Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam proceeded with the proposal.

Under the bill, the provincial government will determine the number of commission members, staff strength, and their privileges. The Chairman of the PSC will be appointed by the governor on the advice of the chief minister.

The commission will now submit its annual performance report to the provincial government instead of the governor. Similarly, the report will be presented in the provincial assembly by the government rather than the governor.

The legislation also grants the provincial government direct authority over framing rules and regulations of the commission.

According to the bill, the amendment will come into immediate effect across the province through an official notification.

It added that the government will propose suitable names for the chairman and members of the search committee.

The KP Assembly also approved the Local Government Amendment Bill 2026 after lawmaker Dawood Shah presented it during the same session today.

Under the legislation, each village council and neighbourhood council will consist of a population ranging between 30,000 to 40,000 people.

The bill also underscores that constituency boundaries will be determined under the 2023 digital census. The KP Assembly unanimously passed the amendment bill.
