KP govt to file FIR against Islamabad police chief, 600 cops

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Thursday decided to file a first investigation report (FIR) against Islamabad Police Inspector General (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and 600 unidentified police officers for allegedly raiding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) House in Islamabad under relevant sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Sections under unlawful entry, damage to property and violation of residents’ privacy will be included in the FIR, which will be registered in Peshawar, classifying the raid as an act of terrorism.
Islamabad police and Rangers personnel had allegedly raided KP House in an attempt to arrest KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur while he had reached the capital from Peshawar leading PTI workers, who staged a protest at D-Chowk.
The KP government authorities claimed that significant damage was caused to the KP House during the raid and government employees and police officials were also detained.
Earlier, the KP government had demanded the removal of Islamabad’s police chief.
Meanwhile, the provincial assembly has formed a parliamentary committee to investigate the raid on the KP House with its final meeting scheduled for November 14.
The committee has received a report from the departments of communication and works (C&W) and administration, estimating total damages to KP House at Rs16.8 million. The report said that the KP chief minister’s two iPhones, government-issued firearms, Rs1 million belonging to assembly members was also missing since the raid. It said that official vehicles were also damaged during the raid.
