KP tourism authority employees get salary despite expiry of contract

PESHAWAR: Contractual employees of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) continue to receive salaries even after their contract ended in September, sources told HUM News English.

The sources said that more than Rs5 million were released to these contractual employees, who were hired under the Tourism Act 2019, which does not allow contract extension beyond one year.

An audit report also raised objections on 77 contract employees in grade 17, 18 and 19, but no action was taken against them, the sources added.

They said that more than 100 contract and deputation employees were given illegal extension of one year during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The general manager on contract also continues to receive salary, petrol allowance and has a government vehicle at his disposal, according to the sources.

The KPCTA spokesperson did not respond to phone calls for comments on the issue.

Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government prepared a set of recommendations to impose a financial emergency in the province and slash 25% in salaries of government employees to overcome financial crisis and prevent default.
