PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s only burn and plastic surgery center is facing an administrative crisis due to lack of resources.

According to a latest report, 103 posts including 60 nursing staff fell vacant during the past few years. The primary cause for most of these vacancies has been attributed to trained nurses, paramedics and doctors taking jobs abroad.
The situation is particularly concerning because patients from Punjab, Gilgit and even Afghanistan are brought to this burn unit, said the Burn Centre Director Dr Tahmeedullah.
Over the last half of a decade, there has been a 56 per cent increase in patient visits to the burn center. Dr Tahmeedullah said that more than 9,000 patients have been treated at the Peshawar Burn Center last year.

He added that the recruiting ban from the caretaker government has added to the dearth of qualified staff and remains problematic.
