KTH doctors protest: Elective services closed
PESHAWAR:Doctors of Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) in protest against the non-payment of salaries have shut down all elective services in the hospital.
More than 900 trainee medical officers at Khyber Teaching Hospital are yet to receive their salaries for November, prompting the protesting doctors to cease elective services.
Expressing their grievances, the KTH doctors protested and took to Jamrud Road in a march, highlighted the unusual delay in salary disbursement.
The hospital spokesperson has pointed to the Health Department and Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) as responsible entities for the salaries of Training Medical Officers (TMOs).
As the protest unfolds, the disruption in elective services raises concerns about the impact on patient care, while the doctors stand firm in their demand for the timely and rightful disbursement of their salaries.
It merits mentioning that in a crucial financial boost, a sum exceeding Rs 2.98 billion was disbursed last week to address the acute financial constraints faced by the teaching hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The allocation, as disclosed by the health department, encompasses various key medical institutions.

A noteworthy portion of this financial injection, amounting to Rs 653.1 million, has been directed towards the Post Graduate Medical College Hayatabad. Lady Reading Hospital, a prominent healthcare facility in the region, is set to receive Rs 380 million, while Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex will benefit from allocations of Rs 200 million and Rs 190 million, respectively. Additionally, a specific fund of Rs 200 million has been earmarked for Ayub Medical Complex Road.
