WEB DESK: Kuwaiti air defence forces successfully detected and intercepted four cruise Iranian missiles and 21 hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) violating the country’s airspace on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence announced.

The strikes, which occurred at dawn, targeted several vital installations and critical infrastructure across the country. According to the ministry’s official spokesperson, Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, the aerial interceptions successfully neutralised the primary threats. While no casualties or loss of life were reported, authorities confirmed that the debris and impacts resulted in material damage to some installations.

Target on infrastructure

The incident comes amid sharply rising military friction in the Gulf region owing to the ongoing escalation between the United States and Iran. According to state media reports, Kuwaiti emergency response teams, including the Kuwait Fire Force, were deployed to contain localized blazes resulting from the attack.

Colonel Al-Atwan reiterated that the Kuwaiti Armed Forces remain in a state of high combat readiness and continue to perform their duties to safeguard the country’s sovereign borders and ensure the security of citizens and residents. Regional neighbours and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have issued statements condemning the hostile aerial operations targeting Kuwaiti territory.

Cumulative interceptions

The Ministry of Defence also published its cumulative operational data tracking aerial threats since the beginning of the current security escalation.

According to the official figures released by the Army General Staff Headquarters, Kuwaiti air defences have intercepted a total of 970 hostile UAVs, 387 ballistic missiles, and 25 cruise missiles during the active conflict. Security measures across Kuwait’s northern border posts and maritime installations have been heavily reinforced in response to the persistent threat level.
