Labour Day: SBP announces bank holiday on May 1

ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a bank holiday on Wednesday, May 1, in observance of Labour Day.

All the banks across the country will remain closed on May 1.

“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on May 1, 2024 (Wednesday) being a public holiday on the occasion of Labour Day,as declared by the Government of Pakistan,” the notification issued by SBP read.

Every year on May 1, people celebrate International Labour Day in observance of labourers’ and workers’ accomplishments and to raise awareness of their rights. Often referred to as “May Day,” it originated in the eight-hour day movement of the American labour union movement in the 19th century.
