Lady doctor shot dead after rejecting marriage proposal, suspect attempts suicide

HARIPUR: A 25-year-old woman doctor was shot dead inside a car on the Hazara Motorway on Saturday after she refused a marriage proposal from a married man, police said.
The suspect, identified as Shahzad, opened fire on the victim, Anila Bibi, while she was travelling with her mother from Islamabad to Abbottabad, according to police. The mother was unharmed in the incident.
Police said the accused, a resident of Mansehra, had sought to marry the victim as a second wife but shot her after she rejected his proposal.
After killing the woman, the suspect shot himself in the throat in an apparent suicide attempt.
Both were taken to the Trauma Centre in Haripur, where the suspect was given initial medical treatment before being shifted to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad in critical condition.
The victim, a resident of Abbottabad, died at the scene, police said.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Kot Najibullah police station, which has launched an investigation.
