LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars kept their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 playoff hopes alive with a crucial win over Peshawar Zalmi in a must-win LAH vs PES clash.
Chasing a daunting 200-run target, the Qalandars pulled off a composed six-wicket victory with three balls to spare, thanks to a match-winning unbeaten half-century by Fakhar Zaman.
In the LAH vs PES encounter, Qalandars had an early setback as Mohammad Naeem fell cheaply, but Fakhar steadied the innings with key partnerships alongside Abdullah Shafique (25) and Charith Asalanka (33). He then accelerated with Sikandar Raza, who scored a quick 29 before falling in an unusual hit-wicket dismissal.
Daniel Sams provided the late surge with a blistering 35 not out off 15 balls, guiding Lahore over the line. Fakhar remained unbeaten on 58 off 47 deliveries and was named Player of the Match.
Earlier in the LAH vs PES contest, Zalmi posted a strong 199/4 after being put into bat. Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi struck early to remove James Vince and Kusal Mendis, reducing Zalmi to 36-2.
Babar Azam (59) and Bracewell then rebuilt the innings with a 94-run partnership. Bracewell continued his dominance, finishing as the top-scorer with an explosive 83 off 45 balls, while Iftikhar Ahmed added a quick unbeaten 27 to boost the total.
For Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf picked up two wickets each, though Rauf proved expensive.
The victory takes Lahore’s points tally to 10, keeping their playoff hopes alive, with qualification now dependent on other results.
