WEB DESK: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi visited the families of jailed senior PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Dr Yasmin Rashid in Lahore on December 27, 2025, as part of his ongoing political engagements in the city. Both leaders are currently incarcerated at Kot Lakhpat Jail, and Afridi’s visit aimed to show solidarity with their families while reaffirming the party’s commitment to its leadership.
Afridi, who had arrived in Lahore on Friday to kick off PTI’s street movement, spent the day meeting supporters across the city. According to social media updates from PTI’s Naeem Haider Panjutha, the Chief Minister first visited Qureshi’s residence, where he met with the leader’s children, Zain and Meher Bano. Speaking to the media, Afridi emphasized that his visit to any part of Pakistan requires no justification, and the purpose of his trip was to meet party leaders and their families. He also noted that the KP government had formally requested Punjab authorities to facilitate visits to the jailed leaders at Kot Lakhpat, but no response had been received.
After Qureshi’s residence, Afridi proceeded to meet Dr Yasmin Rashid’s family. The party shared images from the meeting, highlighting Afridi’s engagement with the families of other prominent PTI figures, including Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Hammad Azhar, and activists Sanam Javed and Falak Javed. Later in the day, he plans to visit the family of Ali Bilal, known as Zille Shah, who died during a PTI protest in 2023.
Afridi’s tour faced logistical challenges, including restricted access to former governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema’s cantonment residence and police roadblocks around Liberty Roundabout that prevented him from delivering a scheduled speech. Despite these hurdles, the Chief Minister continued to meet party supporters showing PTI’s determination to mobilise its base and maintain connections with both leaders and grassroots activists in Lahore.
