Lahore High Court Bar Association elections to be held tomorrow

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) will hold its elections on Saturday (tomorrow), with 32,488 members expected to cast their votes via biometric verification.

Raja Amr Khan and Babar Murtaza will go head-to-head for the president’s slot, while contests for the other three key positions are expected to be closely fought among 18 candidates.

For the slot of secretary, Rai Muhammad Ali and three others are in the running. The vice-president seat has four contenders, including Chaudhry Qamar Shahid, while the finance secretary post will see Qurat-ul-Ain Work among eight candidates competing.

Polling will run from 9am to 5pm, according to election officials.

The elections are considered highly significant for Lahore’s legal community, reflecting keen competition across all major positions.

In a message LHCBA President Malik Asif Ahmad Nissoana said: “It is a matter of great honour for me to serve as President of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, the premier Bar of the country. My team and I are committed to advancing the torch of justice and the independence of the Bar. We believe the law must serve as a tribune of justice, not as an instrument of power. Upholding the independence of the Bench and Bar is central to this mission. The Bar has consistently acted as an independent voice, critiquing policy, supporting democratic values, and safeguarding fundamental freedoms. The Lahore High Court Bar Association holds a unique place in Pakistan’s legal landscape, with few parallels nationally.”

In a message, LHCBA Secretary Farukh Ilyas Cheema said: “It is both a profound honour and a solemn responsibility to address the members of our nation’s legal fraternity. As Secretary of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, one of the oldest and most eminent Bars in South Asia, I extend my appreciation for your unwavering commitment to the rule of law, constitutionalism, and the democratic ethos of Pakistan.”
