The Lahore Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic management plan for the upcoming Pakistan-Australia One-Day International (ODI) series to facilitate cricket fans and ensure smooth traffic flow across the city.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Abdul Rahim Shirazi, more than 1,000 traffic wardens will be deployed around Gaddafi Stadium, team routes and alternative road networks during the matches. The traffic arrangements will be supervised by two Superintendents of Police (SPs), six Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and 90 inspectors.
To prevent traffic congestion caused by illegally parked vehicles, the traffic police will also deploy 10 forklifts and five breakdown vehicles.
The CTO said four designated parking areas have been allocated for spectators to ensure convenient access to the stadium.
Major arteries including Mall Road, Canal Road, Jail Road and Main Boulevard Gulberg will remain open to traffic throughout the matches. No roads will be completely closed, although brief traffic stoppages may occur during the movement of the participating teams.
Fans travelling via Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road and Ferozepur Road will be able to park their vehicles at Government College for Boys.
Those arriving from Thokar Niaz Baig and Kahna have been advised to use Kalma Chowk and Centre Point to reach the Government College for Boys parking facility.
Meanwhile, spectators coming from Cantonment and Defence areas will be able to park at Sunfort Hotel and Liberty Market parking areas before proceeding to the stadium.
The traffic police urged citizens and cricket fans to follow traffic instructions and use the designated parking facilities to avoid inconvenience during the ODI series.
