WEB DESK: The Punjab government has begun planning a new initiative to deliver free insulin directly to patients’ homes, with the provincial health department moving into the final stages of preparation.
The development was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Health and Population Welfare Khawaja Imran Nazir on Wednesday. Medical superintendents from across the province joined the session via video link.
Officials briefed the minister in detail on insulin stock management, storage, and the mechanisms required to ensure efficient and uninterrupted distribution once the programme is launched. The meeting also reviewed data on insulin usage across secondary hospitals, highlighting consumption patterns and gaps in supply.
Khawaja Imran Nazir instructed the department to use hospital-level data to accurately forecast the province’s insulin needs for the coming months. He emphasised that the new delivery system must be reliable and patient-friendly, ensuring that diabetic patients, especially those in remote areas, receive their medication without delays.
The initiative is expected to be rolled out after procurement, supply chain, and monitoring frameworks are finalised.
